Let's say your health and dental insurance provides little to no coverage until you spend a certain amount out of your own pocket - your annual deductible. If you've used your insurance at all this year, you've probably made some progress towards meeting that deductible. In fact, you may have already met it completely. Now is the time to take advantage of your deductible being met before it restarts in 2018. If you have met your out of pocket max be sure to make the most of the money you have spent this year and be seen for any issues you have been putting off and receive your care and treatment before your deductible restarts in January.
Don’t wait until December to try and make an appointment either. Many medical offices busiest months are November and December. Be sure to schedule your needed appointments now to ensure you and your doctor have time to complete your treatment plan before your insurance starts over.
Even If you have a high deductible there are still a set of preventive services that are covered under your plan at no cost to you, including some screenings, check-ups, patient counseling, and wellness services. Be sure to review your plan benefits or contact your insurance provider to see what services you can benefit from.
Another good reason to take care of medical and dental work now is to spend any remaining balance in your flexible spending account (FSA) and health savings account. These are accounts that you establish through your employer, and that you may have elected to have some of your pre-tax pay put into. If you don't use all your FSA contributions by the end of the year, you lose them. Some things you could use these accounts for are:
- Custom Orthotics
- Glasses & contacts
- Dental work
- Physical Therapy
